#13 knowledge...

The past month, I have spent some amount of every day studying for the NPTE.  I have spent hours reading words on a page, watching videos, drawing diagrams and quizzing and testing the knowledge I have learned in the last three years of graduate school.  If you're overwhelmed, so am I. My exam is Monday and I am getting to the point where the sheer amount of knowledge seems too great.

Last Sunday, I joined a group at church that is solely focused on women and their hearts for God.  Joining a group/bible study has been on my list for a while, but I just havent found one that I felt like was a good fit for me.  Then, this one came up and I immediately signed up.  It will take place for the next six Sundays and is situated in the hours right before church, so it will also serve as good community time before heading to service (where, at times, I can feel disconnected or just another number).

Ironically (or not so ironic), this week we focused on a passage from 2 Peter (verses 3-8).  It is as follows:

His devine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.  Through these he has given us his great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.  For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.  For, if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I have read this passage a few times throughout yesterday and today and I keep feeling as though the word knowledge is popping off the page.  I see this as one of those passages that can speak to you no matter where you are in your walk with God, but to me, its saying: God has provided me with everything I need.  And he is calling me to know him more.  He longs/desires for me to know him.  To know him like I know the material I am going to be tested on this week.  To know him like I know my friends/family.  To know him like I long to be known.... And as my knowledge in him grows, I can be more productive, more efficient and more effective in my battle against evil desires of this world (my vices and my strongholds).

I know that through this women's group I am going to grow in my knowledge of him and it starts at the cross every time.  I cannot wait to see the ways God works in me through this time and I am so thankful I was brave enough to join the group!  Stay tuned...
